How to be Mindful — 7+ Daily Rituals

Do you want to learn how to be mindful and in control of your life? Daily rituals can help. These are some simple habits that will make you feel like you have more control over your thoughts, feelings, and daily actions. The best part is that they only take about five minutes each day. Give these 7 mindfulness daily rituals a try!

BREATHE.

Learn how to be mindful of your thoughts and feelings. You don't have to be a Buddhist monk, but it's important to recognize that you are thinking or feeling something at any given moment. Is this the time for those thoughts? If not, take some deep breaths to refocus on what is more productive in the long run. It may seem like an impossible task due to our busy lives, but with a little bit of practice we can return our focus when needed - even if only briefly.

UNPLUG.

Start each day off by taking five minutes alone without electronics around. This will allow us all the time we need to meditate on how best we want our day go and recharging from having spent so much time plugged in before work starts.

DROP THE TO-DO LIST.

Do not always use a to-do list. This can often lead us into the mental trap of feeling like we need to complete tasks in order - instead, try picking one thing that you want to accomplish and see how it goes from there. If after an hour or two you find yourself still productive, then go ahead and tackle another task! In general, go with the flow. Don't put more stress on yourself with to-do lists. Allow yourself to be led to the days' tasks. You will feel more freedom.

SLEEP.

Today, our work culture has eliminated the need for rest. This is no good! Make time every day to get a full eight hours of sleep and you'll be more productive in your waking hours as well as better equipped to deal with stressors that come up during the week. Tip: Try eating some sleep-enduing foods including kiwi or light protein an hour before bed.

SAY NO TO STRESSORS.

Stress can have negative effects on us - it's important not only to know what kind of activities might cause someone stress but also how best we want our day go and recharging from having spent so much time plugged in.

MEANINGFUL ACTION FROM THE HEART (not just ego).

If we're always aiming at achieving tasks solely out of obligation or because we only want the "good feelings" from our hard work, it'll be difficult to maintain a sustainable routine. Take the heart-center approach when it comes to pursuing your tasks and goals.

TAKE CARE OF OURSELVES FIRST.

We need time for self-care and nurturing in order to make sure we're taking proper care of ourselves on all levels - but without having any false expectations or being too hard. Take note of the things that bring out the best in you and do that more.

This is just scratching the surface on how to be mindful. The benefits will be felt within days as stress levels drop significantly while productivity raises too. We all deserve to take care of ourselves and be happy in what we do, so keep at it! At Rockstar Spirit, we help tailor creative self-care and mindfulness rituals to suit your lifestyle.
